One Summer: America, 1927
I loved this book.
One Summer tells of the newsworthy events of that season in 1927; those that drew the biggest crowds and generated the most column inches in newspapers, then still the dominant medium for news in America, though sales would decline in the following years due to the rise of radio. Bill Bryson fills every page with fascinating details, providing extensive depth and context. I can easily see why these happenings captivated large numbers of Americans as I was likewise enthralled by them as well as Bryson’s always entertaining writing.
